Badware problems

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Hello ripplers,

We’ve discovered this morning that unfortunately the Ripple site was compromised by malware.
Some of you who are using Chrome as your browser will have seen “This site could harm your browser” type messages. We’re incredibly unhappy about this and we are very concerned that some users could be avoiding the site as a result.

WHAT WE’RE DOING: The malware has been removed and we are now working to remove the malware warnings via Google, although they haven’t responded to our initial request, and it can take up to 24 hrs. We hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible and Ripple to return to normal operations.

We are also moving hosts as a precaution as we have had some concerns about recent security incidents and advisories.

Please keep an eye on the blog for details and hopefully this will be resolved shortly.

UPDATE 27/08/2010: We’re happy to say that the badware problem has been completely nuked and hopefully will never return. We’ve moved hosts, locked down unnecessary services, changed passwords and beefed up security in general.

Sorry for the stress folks – everything back to normal – happy rippling!

ripple at Harvard

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

The ripple guerrilla marketing outposts keep spreading.

This photo is from a team of ripplers studying at Harvard University in the USA. Look closely for the ripple sticker! Around fifty of these stickers are distributed around the campus….

Harvard Yard

The Harvard-ripple team are also planning a poster run in the next few weeks.

Aaaaaaaand……. we’re back.

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

OK, so basically the Media Temple storage cluster went down and completely nuked about 15,000 sites and took Ripple offline for over 2 days.

We’ve been getting constant updates from MT and it kept *looking* like it was coming back online….just…not….there…yet captain. So thank you for your patience and we are looking at ways to avoid this in future without costing an arm and a leg.

Thanks, and keep on rippling!

Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009

fire3.jpg

As many people are already aware, this shocking disaster has already made headlines around the world and claimed the lives of over 180 people, with the toll still rising. Entire communities have been wiped out and we have all been deeply affected. Day after day shocking and heartbreaking stories continue to emerge as the full horror of what transpired on Black Saturday continues to unfold.

fire4.jpg

This is very close to home for us, some of the worst fires occurring in the outskirts of Melbourne, Ripple’s home town. We all know people who have been affected, saw their houses and property destroyed, or worse yet, lost friends or loved ones.

fire5.jpg

The cost of this disaster has been estimated at over $1.5 billion.
The Red Cross are providing aid, accommodation, medical support, and food for over 7500 people.

Please take a moment to consider donating to assist the effort in rebuilding these shattered communities and helping those who have lost everything.

Hey Ripplers,

We’d like you to check out a great Ripple ad put together completely by some keen Ripple volunteers – Amelia Birrell, Steve Murray, Georgie Langmead, and Olivia Thomas from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia.

These guys have put a lot of hard work and effort into shooting and editing a short video ad to help get the Ripple message out there. Guys we salute your efforts!

Also a big thanks to David Usher, a well known Canadian recording artist who gave permission to use his track “The River” in the video. David you rock.

Check the vision below and let us know what you think!

Dennis’ day off (PC Only)

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Hey guys!

Check out this ripple game made by rippler Ben Tibbetts! It’s called “Dennis’ Day Off“, and it’s all about ripple mascot Dennis The Droplet and his day off, riding his bike around town, collecting money for charity! The midi style soundtrack will blow you away! Currently PC only, but Ben is in discussions to port it onto Wii, XBOX 360 and PS3 (unconfirmed). Love your work Ben.
